What did you want to be when you were a kid? A dancer, firefighter, police officer, pirate, cowboy, doctor… The options were endless and probably changed a lot. What’s your dream job?

I can tell you my job was never my dream job. I specifically didn’t want to become a nurse. I saw how hard they worked and what little recognition they got. Physicians get the praise, not that they don’t work hard, but nurses do the grunt work. They get the negative aspect of the job of healthcare team member. The pay that nurses get does not represent their education or the work they do either. It’s a high burnout profession. Yes, a profession. I don’t like the phrase “its a calling”. Nurses aren’t nuns anymore. Haven’t been for quite some time. We as nurses aren’t even nice to each other. It’s a dog eat dog world and not one I ever wanted to be in. So how did I get here? Crazy as it seems, after getting a degree in biology and working in a lab, I figured out I really wanted to help people. All these people who don’t help themselves, listen to expert advice, or can’t seem to find kindness in themselves. Yep, them. So, her I am, venting in a blog and trying to think of what my dream job would be. I used to joke that I signed up for princess but didn’t get it. Ha, ha. I guess since I love to travel so much maybe I should have been an airline attendant. Better yet, maybe a travel show host like Samantha Brown! That sounds like fun…

Whatever your dream job is, how can you achieve it? Don’t wait. Make your life the best life for you. This is it, no dress rehearsal, we don’t get another one…
